Use your finest talents

I take these words of wisdom to heart. It reminds me of the many times my mother would tell me to never let my talents go to waste. Specifically, I remember learning a new song at piano lessons when I was around 7 or 8. I was frustrated at the fact that it wasn’t as advanced as the songs my sisters would play. [Granted they were much older than I and have been playing piano for years.] I was impatient and wanted to quit pianobecause the songs I played were boring. My mother was upset with my outlook and explained that God gave me these talents and ability to learn and I shouldn’t waste them with a poor attitude. She expressed that though I may feel I am ready for more advanced music I can’t ignore the basics; the basics that most people don’t take the time to practice and perfect.

A conversation so simple has remained in my conscience and the way I live day to day. Flash forward to now and my father continues to remind me of these words almost every time we talk. He wants me to always work hard in everything I do but also do what I’m most passionate about.

I had a lot of time to think of the direction of my life while I was working a cubicle job. Though I was so grateful for the job and steady income, my gut was telling me I needed to do more. I needed to utilize my talents. And to be completely honest, I wanted to truly feel my life had a purpose.

I overindulged in my interests to help me pin point the changes to make in my life. I realized two things: I love creating events that everyone can enjoy and I love helping others. So why not do those two things every day.

That’s my plan. It will take time, patients and dedication. It won’t happen overnight, just like learning the piano. But, if I take the time to practice and perfect my trials and errors I will reach any goal I set my mind to. Writing it down and starting this website holds me accountable for my words. I see it as baby steps for turning my words into actions.

If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” -Marc Anthony

I hope to one day launch LetsZest as a community that creates meaningful events while helping and supporting others.
